How to update
Four steps.
Update your accounting program first.
If you’re moving to a newer QuickBooks or Sage 50, upgrade it before CartSpan.
- Sage 50: upgrade your company in place (back up the company folder first). If you move it to a new folder, the ODBC connection must be pointed at the new folder; we can do that remotely for $25. Upgrades also switch off ODBC access for add-ons: under Maintain › Users › Setup Security › Data Access, switch it back on with CartSpan’s original password. Don’t know it? Email us.
- QuickBooks: major updates often switch off the QODBC add-on. Test the connection with the “QODBC Driver for QuickBooks Setup” program (General tab) before running CartSpan.
Back up.
Your settings and license aren’t touched, but make a copy of
C:\Program Files (x86)\Noverhead\CartSpan\first.Uninstall the current version.
Close CartSpan, then uninstall it from Windows’ “Add or remove programs”, or run the Undeploy script in the CartSpan folder.
Install the update.
Run the update for your accounting year. CartSpan uses Microsoft’s .NET 8, which we install when we set up your trial.
On WooCommerce, Magento or another cart on your own server, a long-overdue update may also need newer PHP scripts. CartSpan tells you the first time it runs; call us and we’ll send them.
